WED, May 14th - 5:30 pm to 8 pm - at the Great Basin Food Co-op

Local Food Network is hosting a Candidates Forum for Reno City Council and Mayoral Candidates -
Let's find out which are friendly towards back-yard farming and local food sovereignty rights!
Hope you can come!
and pls circulate to your health conscious friends!

Some issues very pertinent to us, would include making sure we have, or can get,
zoning that is friendly to back-yard, family goats, and possibly back-yard, family cows as well.
Plus, besides milk animals, we want other WAPF-food-friendly rights and freedoms,
including raising chickens, vegetable gardens, and more.

On Wed, May 14th, the Local Food Network will hold a forum
to give City of Reno mayoral and council candidates
the opportunity to discuss local food systems and urban agriculture with the community.
Local food systems increase business opportunities, give residents access to healthy food, improve food security,
and beautify our community with edible landscapes.
We think Reno is ready to take its local food system to the next level!
In order to coordinate food, tables and chairs,
we'd like to get a count of how many people are coming.

Please take a minute to send an RSVP - with the number of people attending to:

localfoodsystemnetwork@gmail.com

Space is limited, so please RSVP by May 5th.
A suggested $5 donation at the door is much appreciated.
Locally Yours, The LFN Board

Raw Milk Education Meeting - Let's Get 'Real Raw Milk' Legal in Nevada!!

The topic will be SAFETY of Raw Milk -
everyone invited!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Educating the public is a crucial element in gaining our rights -
especially educating people about the SAFETY of Raw Milk!
which is the big pretext for restricting Raw Milk wherever it is restricted.
All aspects are important, but SAFETY of Raw Milk is huge!
Everyone needs to clearly understand the false and misleading statements
of the CDC, USDA, FDA and many state ag and health boards.

Informing ourselves, becoming articulate and educating others -
these are crucial keys to getting our rights.

WEDNESDAY, MARCH 27th at 6:00pm - SAVE UNR FARMS - City Council Meeting - Location tba

From:
"Great Basin Community Food Co-op" <info@greatbasinfood.coop>

The meeting was postponed until WED, MARCH 27th at 6:00pm.
One of the appellants asked City Council if they can meet at a larger venue if too many people show up, city council said yes.

So, we need to let them know how many people are planning on attending well ahead of time.
In the same place where the petition to SAVE UNR FARMS was at the main register, there is now an RSVP sign up form.
If you are planning on attending the March meeting (and you should if you care about the future of local food in Northern Nevada)
then please sign up on the list
or email RSVP@greatbasinfood.coop

We know that there are literally thousands of people in the co-op membership base who care about this issue and who have voiced concern, signed petitions, liked/shared it on facebook and attended previous meetings.

However, it all boils down to the City Council decision.

Reno City Council Meeting will make the FINAL DECISION to allow the rezoning or deny it.

If UNR President, Marc Johnson's request to rezone the 104 acre parcel at UNR Farms is denied then the issue is finally over and we will have worked very hard for several years to save UNR MAIN STATION FARM!

Again, once this decision is made there is no going back.
So, get the date on your calendar now and RSVP to the meeting on the 27th by coming into the store
or emailing RSVP@greatbasinfood.coop
so that we can add you to the list.
